Gujarat Congress today organized Gujarati new year get-together function in Ahmedabad’s Tagore hall. Presented here is speech of leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela and interaction of Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia with media persons after the programme.
Vaghela in his speech said that state party president should be given more importance than chief minister by party workers. He asked party cadre to get involved in membership drive to add new people to party. Vaghela asked cadre not to get depressed due to poll results. He gave example of Indira Gandhi and Ravan whose regime didn’t last forever. Vaghela asked party men to select such candidates to contest who don’t join other party after getting elected. He said if candidate fails to win, it’s OK, but if he wins and then joins other party, that’s just unacceptable. He said party should start procedure of choosing candidates for next year’s Municipal Corporation and Panchayat elections in advance. If candidates are selected six months ago, a candidate can visit people and give fight to BJP which is in full power. Vaghela said people are not to be blamed because they are carried away due to Achche Din advertisements. Vaghela termed people as ‘Bhot(ultimate dumb)’ for voting someone to power who fooled them. Vaghela said Congress is just not able to remove those crossing discipline line.If Delhi doesn’t take decision on removal of such persons, at least Gujarat pradesh Congress team should disown him and stop contacting him. Vaghela said though there are technical issues involved while taking action against nuisance persons in party, at least state unit has to neglect such persons completely. Vaghela expressed surprise that how taluka level elections are not fought and BJP candidates win unopposed? What are taluka units doing? Taluka units are crook in such cases.
