With the last visit of Gujarat Chief Minister to Kutch district, Lignite mine at Umarsar has started witnessing massive work of excavation round the clock. So far 30 ft excavation has been completed with 8 JCBs on job. This is the task that has to be performed before actual mining of lignite which lies at the depth of 100 ft.

Reopening of Umarsar mine will give new life to transportation industry in Kutch. Some movements are already being felt as daily around 250 trucks are carrying soil excavated from the site at present.

Umarsar may offer lignite by the end of January. Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation(GMDC) run this mine may cater loading of daily 250 trucks once it is fully functional.

Two other mines that are closed in this area are Panandhro and Matano Madh. Panandhro was much bigger compared to Umarsar with daily visits of around 1200-1500 trucks.
