Two Gujarat boys wins National Rural IT Quiz 2014 at Bangalore

According to senior scientist Shri Narottam Sahu(Gujarat Science City) std. X students Yash and Kartik of R. U. Ramjibhai English School, Songarh in Bhavanagar district, who were selected as GUJCOST State winner of Rural IT Quiz and represented Gujarat at National Rural IT Quiz 2014 at Bangalore, were declared as the National Champion this afternoon.
The two young boys won Rs.1,00,000.00 cash award, trophy, mobile sets and electronics gadgets as First Prize at the valedictory ceremony on last Tuesday in Bangalore.
The two bright students and their escort teachers arrived last evening and they were also felicitated by Smt. Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat in presence of Shri S. J. Haider, Secretary, Dept of Science & Technology, Govt of Gujarat in a programme organized in Science City last evening.
The quiz was mainly focus on application of Information Technology across various aspects such as: the technology environment, the business, its people, new trends, legends etc.; the world of internet, and unique websites, IT buzzwords and acronyms; Personalia – International, national and communications companies; Software products, companies and brands. History of IT and the humorous side of IT and Areas where IT has made an impact – education, entertainment, books, multimedia, music, movies, internet, banking, advertising, gaming, social networking, cell phones, etc.
This year the theme of the Rural IT Quiz was based on Android and the different versions of this popular OS among smart phone users. The animation based quiz format had the following five rounds – Jelly Bytes, Tech Sandwich, Ginger Slice, Data Comb and Gelato Finale. Each of the rounds tested the student’s spectrum of knowledge in the IT sphere. At the final level competition, all the participating students gone through a written preliminary round and the top six teams were qualified for the national final. About 16.00 lakh students from Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Jharkhand participated in the quiz
