Only literacy can empower women: CM at Valsad

Valsad, 22 November 2014

Gujarat Chief Minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel today stated that the higher literacy among women is the only option to uplift their position in the family and society.

Mrs. Patel also termed the traditional customs like ‘Sati’, non-breast feeding to newly born baby-girl, killing of female foetus and others as the black-spots on face of the Indian society.

Speaking at the inaugural function of two-day long ‘National Youth Sammelan’ organized by Shree Sharda Math at Valsad, the Chief Minister said, ‘No nation or society can make progress without educating, culturing and empowering the women. The women must contribute 50 % share in the development of the state and nation.’

Quoting Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy, Mrs. Patel said it is the right of every young-girl to get education, self-reliance, and healthy living style.

The Chief Minister also called the women and young-girls to take a pledge to join the Abhiyaan of constructing ‘In-House Toilet’ facility.

For empowering the women, the state government has taken several initiatives like Health Card, separate toilets for girls and boys in the schools, 33% reservation for women in police force, and others, the Chief Minister added.
