Kathua/Rajouri (Jammu and Kashmir), December 13, 2014 (IANS)
Modi at Kathua:
Speaking at a BJP campaign rally in Sports stadium of Kathua in Jammu & Kashmir, Modi in reference to two rival parties NCP which is led by father Farooq Abdullah and son Omar, and PDP which is led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti asked people, “do you want to continue this chakkar of bap-beta and bap-beti? Or you want good of your beta and beti?”
Modi described Congress party in Jammu & Kashmir as ‘Ghuspetiya'(intruder) Congress which somehow manage to intrude in any party in power.
He promised recruitment of local youths in Armed forces. He questioned, “when it comes to recruitment in Army, youths of these areas are not given opportunity. Why recruitment was stopped in this area?”
Modi said, people are discussing the elections of Jammu & Kashmir. They are surprised that the areas that witnessed just 2% voting in past have now witnessed 70% polling. Modi told people they have done excellent job. The task which couldn’t perform by government in centre, has been done by you, he told people.
Modi asked people, “you have seen many governments, but do you remember any government that has done good to you? That has been with you at the time of difficulty? Governments are formed in democracy to do good for people, to respond to voice of people. The problem is that you didn’t punish these people who didn’t serve you when in power. Once you punish them, they will feel their mistakes and improve. ”
Modi gave credit of UN declaration on Yoga divas to people of India who elected government at centre with a clear majority. Modi appealed people of Jammu & Kashmir to do same at state level.
Modi said, there was a law that if a person fails to commit suicide, he/she would be punished. Why a person would choose to commit suicide? Instead of punishment, he/she deserves care, he/she deserves healing, emotional attention. If a person commits offense, he/she is punished, but why a person who fails to commit offense should be punished? We are going to abolish this law.
Modi also spoke about Jan Dhan Yojana which has brought poor people to banking system as his government’s achievement. Modi also spoke about exemption from signature of gazetted officer in document procedure as his government’s achievement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday said successive governments in Jammu and Kashmir were responsible for the backwardness of far-flung areas of the state.
“Poonch and Rajouri districts should have been connected by a rail link with the rest of the country, but successive state governments ignored the far-flung backward areas of the state,” Modi said at a Bharatiya Janata Party election rally attended by over 40,000 people, the maximum from the tribal Muslim Gujjar community from the two districts.
“I promise to connect these areas with the rest of the country through a rail link so that fruits of development reach here quickly,” he said.
Modi repeated what he said at an earlier rally in Kathua district Saturday, that the time has come when the people of the state will have to decide against the “father-son party” (National Conference) and the “father-daughter party” (Peoples Democratic Party) in the state.
“Give us a decisive mandate and we will ensure to usher in a new era of development and progress in Jammu and Kashmir,” Modi said.
The prime minister said he has come to seek a decisive mandate for the BJP, since only a decisive mandate can help people throw away the yoke of poverty and deprivation.
Modi assured the people that he would “return with interest” the love and honour they have shown whenever he has come to the state after becoming prime minister.
While 18 constituencies will vote Sunday, 20 constituencies in Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri districts go to polls in the fifth and final phase Dec 20. Votes will be counted Dec 23.
