Teesta Setalvad at Crime Branch office, next step could be her arrest
December 15, 2014
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, December 15, 2014
Controversial NGO operator and accused in Pandarvada and Gulberg society fund embezzlement case Teesta Setalvad today appeared before Ahmedabad Crime Branch.
Why she appeared before Crime Branch:
Early this month, the Gujarat High Court had directed Teesta , her husband Javed Anand and slain Congress MP Ehsan Jafri’s son Tanvir and a former Gulbarg society resident Firoz Gulzar to appear before the city crime branch’s Investigating Officer (IO) every fortnight for the purpose of interrogation in Gulbarg Society fund misuse case. The High Court had issued this direction while hearing anticipatory bail applications filed by Setalwad and three others in which they contended that the city crime branch of Gujarat police intended to arrest her and others in the fund misuse case.
Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, who appeared on behalf of the city crime branch had argued before the High Court that the accused (Setalwad and others) should be given a fair opportunity to put their side by appearing before the Investigating Officer. So far, they had not appeared before the Investigating.Officer of the case and also not cooperated with the investigations, Jethmalani argued. Setalwad and others had sought anticipatory bail from the High Court as the city sessions court in Ahmedabad had rejected their pre-arrest bail plea on March 25.

Arrest possible?
Police has said that there is a prima facie case against accused no. 1 and 2(Teesta and husband Javed) and their custodial interrogation is imperative to examine the manner in which the huge funds have been transferred to their personal accounts. They have also not co-operated with the investigation so far. There’s no court order against Teesta’s arrest. If police find it suitable, it can arrest Teesta.
