Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia while addressing a press conference at state party headquarters in Ahmedabad today gave 8 days ultimatum to Gujarat government to increase minimum support price of cotton, paddy, groundnut and sugarcane.
Modhwadia said Congress party delegation has sought time to meet Governor on 22 December and Chief Minister on 23 December. If appointment is granted, Congress MLAs will meet them in person to represent the issues of farmers.
Congress leader Siddharth Patel said that farmers are compelled to sell their produce to traders at cheaper rate because the central government arm Cotton Corporation of India(CCI) has purchased only 2% cotton from farmers.
