GoI to return Rs. 27,000 crore to labors through bank accounts: Modi in Gujarat address

Ahmedabad

Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi today delivered a video address to Shramik Kalyan Melas in Gujarat live from Varanasi in Gujarati. Shri Modi spoke to lakhs of labors across 20 districts through this address.

Shri Modi admired Gujarat government for launching new schemes for unorganized labors today and a

Shri Modi pointed out that Gujarat has 1.25 crore labors in rural and urban areas.

Following are the highlights of Shri Modi’s Gujarati speech:

-Generally, in government system only one unit is functional for labor welfare, and mostly it is limited to urban areas because it has no reach in rural areas. Gujarat government has formed rural labor welfare board. This is an innovation and it will show direction to others.

-Labors general work for specific project and later when the project work is over, they migrate to another place. Today, the state government has made an arrangement to take care of their children, so that their future is different from their parents.

-It was Gujarat that took initiative to change the life of a labor with Mahatma Gandhi setting up Majur Mahajan Sangh.

-Gujarat government has also launched a card which will give benefits to laborers in sustained manner.

-Gujarat government has also launched a web portal today which will connect prospective employers and skill laborers.

-I would suggest that employers and owners of companies should be assigned responsibility to see that labors are free from intoxicants. It will be a foundation to pull out labors from poverty. Similarly, housing scheme for poor labors planned by Gujarat govt will prove very important.

–When I joined union government, I was told that the amount as big as Rs. 27,000 crore was lying untouched in Government treasury. Suppose a labor is employed in some company for six months, and his provident fund money is deposited. Now suppose he changes his job. Suppose he shifts from Amdavad to Veraval and starts a new job there. In such case he would not return to Ahmedabad to get his money. We have taken a decision that through Adhar card, we will search such labors and give him his money back through bank. Some are possibly dead, but those who alive will be returned their money. We are working in that direction.

-Dignity of labor is not in our nature. We will give respect to someone in coat pent, but we will give equal treatment to a poor labor with rough dressing, whatever he may be earning. We need to understand importance of labor.

-Gujarat has zero man-day loss and enjoys cordial relations between labors and employers. There are no signs of strike. This is a good atmosphere which attracts investors from across the world. We need to make labors satisfy across India.
