PM lauds unorganised sector workers of Gujarat

Bihar chief minister orders probe into alleged conversion

Varanasi/Ahmedabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded the unorganised sector workers of Gujarat, saying the state had “zero-manday loss” which was one of the reasons for receiving substantial amount of foreign investment.

On a visit to Varanasi, Modi addressed the sector workers at 20 locations across Gujarat through video-conferencing, as part of ‘Shramyogi Kalyan Mela’ of the state government.

Praising the unorganised workers, Modi said Gujarat had zero-manday loss as all stakeholders followed the Gandhian spirit of working as a family. This, he added, is one of the reasons that the state was receiving large amounts of foreign investment.

An official statement released in New Delhi said that as part of the activities for ‘Good Governance Day’, the Gujarat government launched several welfare schemes for unorganised sector workers.

These schemes draw inspiration from the “Shramev Jayate” vision of the Union government, the statement added.

Among the initiatives is ‘U-WIN’ – Unorganised Sector Identification Number, which will enable unorganised sector workers to avail the benefits of several government schemes.

Also launched was a portal through which unorganised labourers can be contacted by the contractors, companies, and general public for various tasks.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Gujarat government for these initiatives, and said other states could also emulate these.

He also congratulated the state government for launching Rural Labour Commissionerates and Rural Labour Welfare Boards.

We must give importance to labour to end discrimination: Modi

Shramyogi Kalyan Mela (working class welfare fair) is a Gujarat Government’s way of pushing forward the idea of good governance. The state is interacting with the labour class and devising welfare measures for them, the prime minister said.

Gujarat is going to take a giant leap in industrial development and a good labour force is one of its pillars.

Investment will come here rapidly. It is necessary for a state to have a skilled labour class and peaceful working environment, Modi said.

People across the world are willing to invest their capital in Gujarat, he said.
