Vadodara
Vadodara Congress has opposed construction of “concrete jungle” having 3,000 cubic meter of concreting spread in an area of approximately 4450 sqmt area in one of the greenest belt of Vadodara in Kamati garden in the name of Butterfly Park.
“As per proposed plan of the Butterfly Park, two domes of 450 sqmt, a souvenir shop, 6 ft high compound wall, an amphi-theater with huge toilets, administrative office, security cabin , ticketing office and a museum are going to be constructed within the garden as a result of which a rich dense forest-style area would be reduced to concrete Jungle,” Congress leader Narendra Rawat said in a statement issued today.
Rawat has highlighted following points in support to his protest:
1. India’s Biggest park of 16000 Sqmt in Surat was built at a cost of Rs. 1.68 crores whereas Vadodara’s Butterfly park of 4450 Sqmt is planned for estimated cost of Rs. 10 Crores. Surat park is closed as more species of butterflies are not available in India and it attracted very few Visitors.
2. Two huge domes in Greenest part of existing garden.
3. Temperature to go up and aesthetically an unpleasant view in Kamati Garden will be in sight next to Historic Museum.
4. Tickets (commercialization) will be needed for entry into Kamati Garden.
5. Duplicated facilities of Amphi theater, toilet blocks , ticket booths (unnecessary Construction ).
6. Congress demands utilization of these proposed Rs. 10 crore for face lifting of entire Zoo.
Rawat said, “in past too, Citizens of Baroda have agitated against construction of Laser fountain and Mayor’s residence in Kamati Garden and now this new idea of damaging this green space has been floated. This forced Butterfly park wherein Corruption is clearly visible in construction phase itself, forget in future further corruption in awarding contract for its maintenance. Please don’t commercialize green space and let a garden remain green and garden. You are requested to kindly cover this issue for the benefit of Vadodara City.
