BJP today pushed some of its big guns into Delhi’s electoral battle, asking its Union Cabinet ministers and a chief minister to campaign for the February 7 elections.
As the countdown for the city based poll battle begins, Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj hit the campaign trail addressing several rallies in South and North West Delhi to woo the voters.
The party also roped in Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who held a public meeting in Bijwasan area of South West Delhi amid indications that more Union ministers and central leaders will hit the roads in the next few days.
Sources in the BJP said though its chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi has been addressing roadshows in various areas, the party does not want to take any chances and has decided to deploy its top leaders to campaign in the city.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is scheduled to campaign for BJP tomorrow while Swaraj and Irani have been told to continue their campaign.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address at least four rallies. He will address a rally on Saturday in East Delhi’s Viswas Nagar.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Chemicals and Fertiliser Minister Ananth Kumar have been making rounds of Delhi BJP office for the last couple of days to oversee the party’s preparations for the polls.
Party chief Amit Shah has already said that the election in the country’s capital was important for the party as a win in Delhi will help it wrest power in many other states.
The AAP has put up a spirited fight as Kejriwal and other leaders of the party has been campaigning hard while Congress’ campaign appeared not matching with BJP and AAP.
