Gurjari 2015: 1st international buyer – seller meet for handloom & handicraft products of Gujarat

With the intent of boosting sales and exports of exquisite handloom and handicraft products of Gujarat, Department of Cottage & Rural Industries (IMD), Government of Gujarat is organizing ‘Gurjari 2015’, the 1st Edition of the International Buyer – Seller Meet for the Handloom & Handicraft Products of Gujarat from 27th February, 2015 to 1st March, 2015 at Gujarat University Convention and Exhibition Centre, Ahmedabad.
The event has been conceived and organized by Gujarat State Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd. (GSHHDC), which markets its products under the brand ‘Garvi Gurjari’. The Meet is being co-organized by FICCI.
Gurjari-2015 is slated to be a B2B Meet, with the aim to provide various range of exquisite handloom & handicraft products of Gujarat under one roof, to create awareness amongst both international and domestic buyers & dealers about the products. The event will bring domestic and international buyers directly in touch with artisans of Gujarat which in turn will promote their products globally.
This 3-day mega event will feature more than 150 exhibitors from various parts of Gujarat exhibiting products of Gujarat. These products will be displayed to about 100 international and over 300 domestic buyers. Pre-scheduled business meetings have been planned between the buyers and exhibitors. These meetings are expected to yield business to the handloom and handicraft sector not only in the domestic market, but will also explore opportunities in the Rs 2000 Cr plus export market. Separate thematic pavilion will be setup to showcase different types of craft, along with live demonstration by artisans. The Meet would also help artisans to understand the global market trends and demands, which will help them to modify their products and strategies accordingly. Fashion shows will be part of this event, which will feature ensemble inspired by the exquisite handloom and handicraft products of Gujarat.
Various products related to the crafts like Tangalia, Sujani, Patola, Mashroo, Bandhani, paintings, wood work, decorative ornaments, etc. which originate from Gujarat will be displayed by artisans to domestic and international buyers from Europe, South East Asia, North America, Australia, New Zealand, Middle and Far East, and Latin American markets.
GSHHDC would also support artisans who lack marketing skill by providing them support in various ways and would bring such artisans under its ambit and provide them necessary support in documentation, quality control, design inputs and order processing.
It is expected that this Meet will give an impetus to the promotion and sale of Handloom & Handicraft products of Gujarat, provide employment opportunities to the rural artisans and increase their domestic & global foot print. This is an inimitable initiative taken by Govt. of Gujarat to promote the hand loom and handicraft sector in the State.
Minister, Shri Saurabhbhai Patel unveiled the event brochure of ‘Gurjari-2015’, along with a short promotional film during a Press Meet held today at Gandhinagar today. Shri Tarachand Chheda, Minister of State for Cottage Industry, Salt Industry and Cow Breeding, Smt Vatsala Vasudeva, Secretary and Commissioner, Cottage & Rural Industries, Shri D K Sharma, Managing Director, Gujarat State Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd., along with other officials of the Corporation & FICCI were present during the occasion.
