Rajkot
A small group of supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Rajkot who has built a temple for Modi today decided to cancel the inauguration function of this temple scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 16.
‘Om group’, a group of Modi supporters in Kothariya village of Rajkot has built a temple of Narendra Modi and installed Modi’s bust there. The supporters claim they have spent nearly Rs 2 lakh for making of this bust which has been ordered from Odisha. ‘Om group’ members wanted MoS Agriculture in centre and local BJP MP Mohanbhai Kundaria to inaugurate this Namo Mandir next Sunday. Couple of Modi supporters who are part of the ‘Om group’ had taken a pledge to stay barefoot until the opening of this temple.
‘Om group’ members yesterday showcased the temple to print and electronic media.
Folloging several news reports on this in media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today morning disapproved such act and expressed his displeasure through twitter.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was appalled by reports of a temple being built in his name and asked people to instead put time and resources in fulfilling the dream of ‘Clean India’.
“Have seen the news about a temple being built in my name. I was appalled. This is shocking & against India’s great traditions.”
“Building such temples is not what our culture teaches us. Personally, it made me very sad. Would urge those doing it not to do it,” he said.
“If you have time & resources, please devote the same towards fulfilling our dream of a Clean India,” Modi tweeted.
Soon after these tweets, ‘Om group’ immediately covered the bust of Narendra Modi with non-transparent plastic. A decision was taken to cancel the inauguration function of temple scheduled on Sunday. A quick decision was also taken to replace Shri Narendra Modi’s idol with Bharat Mata’s idol and continue the idea of temple. A meeting in this regard will be held by organizers.
