As we have time and again said, Senate election in University is a big nuisance. It’s completely unnecessary exercise that waste money, time, energy and focus of students and create disturbance and rivalry in college and university campuses. Those who are associated with University affairs clearly know that this entire exercise of holding senate election is useless and meaningless. On counting day today in Gujarat University campus, number of goons from various colleges had gathered in big number. Like always, there was a clash. This year it was bit more violent. Not only students, but couple of journalist also suffered injuries. One lady reporter’s camera was damaged. Police lathicharge, goons among students challenging police, stone pelting, breaking of chairs, offending shouting all was witnessed in University campus. Government needs to make change in University law and scrap this provision of holding senate elections in universities. The entire purpose of educating the students about elections and electoral process has gone wrong. Students right from the time of college life learn lessons of how caste, money, muscle power and groupism(famously NSUI and ABVP)influence elections.
