Baba Ramdev meets the press, makes clarification on Putrajivak controversy

Baba Ramdev was back at Constitution Club in Delhi to address a press conference. The main motive behind this press conference was to make clarifications on ‘Putrajivak’ Ayurvedic medicine related controversy created by member of parliament KC Tyagi in parliament.

Ramdev said, Putrajeevak is a name given by our rishis. In all major languages across India this medicine is known by this name only. Though there’s a word ‘Putra(male child) in its name, I have time and again clarified that this medicine has nothing to do with birth of male child. If some medicine in Ayurveda has been described as Gaudanti, it is not made from cow’s teeth as its name suggests. There’s a stone that looks like cow’s teeth and therefore the medicine made from that stone is described as Gaudanti. Similarly some Ayurved medicine has Daru in its name, but that doesn’t mean that it is made from liquor. Or if some Ayurvedic medicine is named as Ashwagandha, it is not made from horse(Ashwa). The name makes a point that a person consuming that medicine would get power like horse.

When journalists asked why name of Putrajivak should not be changed, Ramdev reacted: it is not proper to change the name. Then we will have to change all names of medicines. It is not right. Instead when old packets are all sold and we need to print new packets of Putrajivak we will mention a clarification line on packet making it clear that this medicine is not for berth of male child(putra).

Ramdev pointed out that this is just his second press conference after new government is power. He said his earlier press conference was on announcement of International Yoga Divas, while this second conference is about making clarifications on Putrajivak controversy that has been raised by member of parliament KC Tyagi in parliament house.

Ramdev said Narendra Modi is Vazir(PM) while he is Fakir(Sadhu). People who have problem with Vazir are making Fakir a target to ultimately defame Vazir.

He said this in reference of remark by politicians that on one hand Narendra Modi is launching save girl child mission and on the other hand Ramdev is selling medicine for birth of male child.

Ramdev said some people are into propaganda that Ramdev is anti-woman, but the fact is that even after he has become sadhu, he never misses to seek blessing of his mother. Ramdev said he was strongly against the government of Sonia Gandhi led Congress party, but he always mentioned Sonia’s name with highest respect.

Ramdev said member of parliament KC Tyagi has made wrong allegations in Parliament over Putrajivak.

Ramdev said he never wants to get awards, political position. He said neither he nor Modi wants own child, and the medicine called Putrajivak is for common people.

When asked about not just KC Tyagi, but another Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan’s doubts over Putrajivak, Baba said Jaya Bachchan doesn’t get films these days. She should better come to Ashram and see for herself how medicines are made. Baba said he has taught Yogasans to Jaya’s husband Amitabh Bachchan too and better Jaya asks her husband about Baba’s Yogasans.

Baba also clarified that whatever he is doing as Sadhu is within the framework of Sadhu parampara of this land.
