Ahmedabad
For Western Railway, Ahmedabad division is considered the highest earner. However the latest report may cause worry for Western Railway.
While in year 2013-14, Ahmedabad division had 4.78 crore passengers, the figure was 4.75 crore.
While passengers traveling train decreased by 3 lakh, the passengers traveling by air increased. In 2013-14, domestic flights operating from Sardar Patel airport in Ahmedabad carried 32,88,071 passengers while in 2014-15 this figure increased to 34,91,395 passengers.
According to experts, the decrease in number of railway passengers is very small and therefore insignificant. It may go up also in future. The increase in number of passengers traveling by plane is due to cheap tickets offered by airlines that are matching to first or second class travel in train.
