Ravi Shankar Prasad on IT/Telecommunication side of BJP govt(Video)

Union IT, Telecommunication Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today addressed media in Delhi on one year works of his ministry. Prasad declared national free roaming of BSNL from 15 June. He said all major tourist places across India will get wi-fi facility in two years. Such facility has been started at Kashi and it will be launched soon at Taj Mahal. On radiation, Prasad said that India has already kept radiation at 1/10th of level prescribed by World Health Organization(WHO). He said even courts have rejected pleas objecting alleged radiation. He said there’s no concrete evidence suggesting any harm from present level of radiation. He said the debate on radiation and call drops should go together. BTS (mobile towers) are necessary to avoid call drops. He said telecom sector has attracted highest Foreign Direct Investment last year. When I became minister I said I will revive BSNL and MTNL. In year 2004, BSNL was enjoying 10,000 crore profit. Which was the outgoing government is wellknown. In 2014, BSNL suffered 7.5 thousand crore loss in 10 years. It is curious question how did this happen. Someone will need to take responsibility of this. Valid decisions were not taken. BSNL was marginalized in 6th phase in terms of purchase of core equipments, radio equipments. MTNL was in profit till 2008. When I became minister it was in loss. Good governance became a casualty as far as these two PSUs are concerned. And for that people siting in Sanchar Bhavan will have to attract blame. Once BSNL was top performer. I am happy that after one year, BSNL revenue is increasing and it is expanding its consumer base. Even MTNL is expanding its consumer base and on way from negative to positive.
