Gir Lion Sanctuary to be closed for four months from 15 June

Gir Lion sanctuary will be closed for visitors from 16 June for four months of monsoon season considering breeding period for lions.
This year, the total number of visitors has been up by 16.4% with 5.60 lakh headcount, through which the forest department has earned revenue of Rs 6 crore. Last year the total number of visitors was 4.81 lakh.
According to Forest officer Dr. Sandeepkumar, breeding season is just one of the reasons for which visitors are disallowed during the monsoon. The other reason is poor shape of jungle roads inside the forests which makes journey unsafe.
He said, Devalia Lion safari park will continue to remain open during the monsoon period for visitors.
