Latest census figures reveal details of child marriages among SC/ST in Gujarat

Child marriages are not completely uncommon in Gujarat.
According to the latest figures of Census 2011 on marital status of Schedule Caste(Dalit) and Schedule Tribe(Tribal) announced today out of 4,31,106 SC persons in 10-14 age group 9,930 were married, 469 were widowed, 197 were separated while 292 were divorced.
Among Schedule Tribe population, out of 1,033,963 in 10-14 age group 25,508 were married while 1,009 were widowed, 526 separated and 285 divorced.
While legal age of marriage for male is 21, total 10,804 males were found married, 249 widowed, 127 separated and 120 divorced among Schedule Caste in 15-19 age group.
Among Tribal in 15-19 age group, 37,362 male were married, 346 male widowed, 268 separated while 397 were found divorced.
