Fielding Rapid Action Force, Central Reserve Police Force and Indian Army proved good idea, as violence on Wednesday was largely between the mobs of Patidars and the state government propertied with police in center.
Patidar community members were seen complaining throughout the day that police were damaging their parked vehicles without any reason, policemen were entering the houses and beat the people etc.
In such atmosphere RAF and Army deployment was considered a welcome move by agitating Patidars.
There was Patidar rally on Tuesday and Gujarat Bandh call given by Patidar outfit on Wednesday. It is believed that Thursday will be a normal day in most of the violence-hit areas where mainly RAF and Army is deployed to support the police.
Peaceful completion of last rites of those dead during Wednesday violence, gradual relief in curfew and restart of markets, business, regular life will be some of the focus areas for administration. Schools/colleges are not going to open till Monday in some areas. In some other areas(such as Panchmahal district) schools are going to open from Thursday. Due to Raksha Bandhan and week-end, it is expected the normal life across Gujarat will be seen resumed from Monday.
Patidar brothers have uploaded several videos on Youtube on police breaking glasses of their vehicles:
This is a common practice adopted by police during riots. When police men can’t catch particular group of rioters or persons involved in riot on the spot, they select the area where rioters could have most probably emerged from or rioters had disappeared to and make the atmosphere of fear by breaking glasses of cars and windows, or in some case they even pick up suspect from inside the house or compound. Perhaps police men forgot that in the era of CCTV, mobile video and social media such unlawful practice on police part could be captured and even circulated.
