The Rajasthan government has expedited the construction of the connecting road between Abu road and Mount Abu, one of the most favourite holidaying destination of Gujaratis damaged during the heavy rains a few weeks ago, to compete it before coming Diwali and also taking several other tourism related measures including putting special cruise boats in the famous Pichhaula lake of Udaipur, starting a special tourist train on the historic salt railway track in the Sambhar lake and ropeway for Brahma temple at Pushkar to attract more travelers from the neighbouring Gujarat and other parts of the country.
Deputy Director of Rajasthan Tourism, Mr. Rajesh Sharma here today said, ‘the repair of 24 km long hilly connecting road between Abu road and Mount Abu is on at war footing by the Public Work Department (PWD) and would be completed before Diwali. It is already opened but after complete repair the travel would be smoother.’
‘We are also going to put special cruise boats ‘Floating Marinas’ in the Pichhaula lake in Udaipur, another hot favourite of Gujaratis. Kumbhalgarh in Rajsamand district where the largest fort in the world made by Rana Kumbha in 14 AD is situated, has also become a highly likeable spot for the tourists from the neighbouring state and we are doing our best to further improve the tourist facilities there,’ he said.
Another initiative in the form of developing the erstwhile British regime railway track in Sambhar lake has been taken up. ‘The 14 km long railway track that passes through the massive water body was used for carrying salt made there. Now we are going to convert it in to a tourist venture. We would run a train for the tourists on this track. This project would be completed by next year. Notably many films are shot in and around Sambhar. Recently Amitabh Bachchan stared PK was shot there,’ the Deputy Director said.
The ropeway project in Pushkar is also expected to be completed before Diwali. The tourism department is also highlighting the Ranthambhor national park where at least 50 tigers live and due to its unique topography are most easily seen by the tourist, Mr. Sharma said.
