Sharad Punam on Monday, Ice cream flavored Poha in market

Ahmedabad/Surat

Sharad Punam or Sharad Purnima, also called the Kojaagari Purnima or Kumar Purnima, a harvest festival which marks the end of monsoon and celebrated on the full moon day of the Lunar month of Ashvin(Aaso in Gujarati calendar) in honor of Goddess Lakshmi would be celebrated on the 26th of October 2015 across Gujarat with Ras-Garba and Khir.

It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi herself travels across the sky on Sharad Purnima night and asks, “Kojaagari”(who is awaking?). She blesses those awake. Bhagwan Shri Krishna had organized Maha Raas on this night.

In Gujurat, there’s tradition to eat Dhudh-Pauva (milk mixed with poha) in moonlight on Sharad Purnima.

This year, there’s ice-cream pauva in market that tastes like ice-cream when mixed with milk. Such Pauva are available in various favlors like Vanila, rose, Kesar, Kasata etc.

Post Sharad Punam the city of Surat celebrates Chandi-Padvo and eat Ghaari sweet sitting on footpaths with friends and families.
