Congress city general secretary, supporters detained outside Swamy’s press meet venue

Ahmedabad

Around half a dozen Congress activists including its Ahmedabad city unit’s general secretary Janaksinh Parmar were detained by police here today while they were holding demonstration against senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy outside the hotel he was staying in.

A small group of congress activists led by Mr. Parmar suddenly appeared in front of Hotel Inder Residency in Ellisbridge police station area of the city and started shouting slogans against Mr. Swamy claiming him to be a broker of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They also shouted anti Modi and BJP slogans.

The incident took place barely an hour after the press conference of Mr. Swamy in the hotel during which he again raised the issue of the alleged British citizenship of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. Mr. Swamy did not come out of his hotel room during the demonstration.

Mr. Parmar along with his partymen was arrested by police while he was addressing a group of media present there after the demo. He alleged that Mr. Swamy who had opened front against the UPA government, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on the issue of price-rise, black money, Kashmiri Pandits was now keeping quite despite Modi government’s complete failure on the issues. ‘Swamy is a dalal (broker) of Modi and BJP. That is why he is not raising his voice against the Modi government,’ he said.

Police Inspector Ellisbridge D D Vasava said that the detention was done under section 188 of the IPC. They were likely to be released later.
