The Secondary Ladder Point Security Check (SLPSC), the system which includes a random check of passengers apart from the routine one, is back again at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport here.
Security sources of the airport today said that the SLPSC, which is imposed at most of the important airports as a heightened security measure is now in practice following general alert after the Pathankot terror attack.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation and Security (BCAS) has asked national and private airlines to introduce this extra layer of security again.
The routine security check at the airport has also been beefed up with greater vigil on luggage scan to check any security lapse.
‘This might cause some inconvenience to the passengers in form of being made to arrive somewhat early for boarding a flight but is quite effective to avert any possible terror design,’ the sources said.
SLPSC, the system includes a random check of passengers by the airline staff and security personnel on the aerobridge or ladder in case of any suspicious activity. This has become a common practice after any major security issue.
Meanwhile as per the guidelines all the flights operating from this airport are already sending message to the fliers to reach the check in point at least three hours in advance. Local resident Prakash Dave, who boarded a flight to Kolkata, said he had to reach the airport at around 330 am to board a flight which took off around 7 am.
