Gujarat backbone of our tourism industry: Principal Secretary J & K Tourism

Principal Secretary of tourism department in Jammu & Kashmir Sundeep Kumar Nayak today led a road show of the Tourism Development Corporation of his state here to lure more tourists from Gujarat, which already contributes to almost 50% of the total domestic tourist inflow to the state,

On the occasion Mr. Nayak said that Gujarat was the backbone of the J & K tourism and the purpose of the road show was to make the people and tour operators aware of the new tourist circuits developed in recent times along with other facilities.

He said that last season around 1 crore 15 lakh domestic tourists visited the state of which the largest chunk of over 80 lakh was of those came to visit Mata Vaisno Devi. ‘Gujaratis are the largest chunk of domestic tourists followed by people from West Bengal,’ he said adding that for the Kashmir alone this year a target of 40 lakh domestic tourists has been set.

‘We want to let people know that Kashmir has left the memories of flood tragedy behind and move on in the past two years. We have developed many new circuits. The inflow of foreign tourist which was around four lakhs last year is also bound to increase with several western countries pursued to lower or remove their travel advisory. Efforts were on to start chartered flights from various countries to increase the influx,’ he said.

He also stressed on the need to start a direct flight between Ahmedabad and Srinagar.

On the occasion some tour operators put forth suggestion like making small improvements in the tourist related services, giving a personal touch to the publicity campaign and removing terrorist incidents related threat perception from the peoples mind.

Commissioner of Tourism Council of Gujarat Nityanand Srivastava and other officials from tourism department of both the states were also present on the occasion.

Three segment-wise presentations on Jammu, Kashmir and Laddakh was also made during the road show.
