After scuffle and police assurance ‘Thakor Sena’ calls off blockade

Correspondent, Sidhpur (Patan)

‘Kshatriya Thakor Sena’ led by Alpesh Thakor today postponed its blockade programme after assurance of action and provision of escort from police even though instances of stone pelting and mild police action was seen during the 45 minute blockade at some places earlier in the day before it being called off.

Supporters of the caste based outfit sat on the Kalol Mahesana road in the morning as part of their pre-announced protest blockade of the National Highway 8 from Amirgarh to Kalol in North Gujarat against the attack on three members by bootleggers during their raid on an illicit liquor den last Friday. The outfit expressed displeasure over the police granting bail to the accused.\

Today scuffle between police and the blockaders also took place on Kalol Mahesana road. In another incident near Brahmadvada in Unjha taluka of Mahesana district in North Gujarat police lobbed tear gases to remove another set of blockaders when they pelted stone on them.

Later, when Alpesh Thakor got assurance from police officers near National Highway 8 in Sidhpur regarding making police escort available to his outfit during its future raids on illegal liquor dens and action against the policeman who allegedly misbehaved with him, he called off the blockade for now.

Thakor said that the police accepted all our three demands including strict action against attackers, disciplinary action against three policemen who misbehaved with us and providing police protection to our raid teams. ‘Following which I called off the blockade after 45 minutes from its beginning,’ he said.

On January 26 this year Thakor had organized a rally against illegal liquor business in the GMDC ground in Ahmedabad which was supported by all the political parties including the ruling BJP.
