New Delhi
Dr Subramanian Swamy today raised an issue in Rajya Sabha with permission of Chair. He said: Today is May 10th and this house ought to have taken cognizance of fact that it was the day of the first war of independence and many people right from north India to south Indian there was a revolt. May people lost their lives. Therefore this day should be an important part of recognition all over the country. It is not being included properly in text books. Large number of people have laid down their lives. The entire —- rose in revolt led by Rani Zansi led. Today parliament should take a special note of this day and in fact should have a true version of the history which has been distorted in the past. British called it mutiny and even today it is being called mutiny in our textbooks. This is great national shame and it should be rectified.
Swamy in related tweet said: Today our first war of Independence from British began in Meerut. In Vellore Indian soldiers revolted. But our history books say: Mutiny!!
