Details in media reports incomplete, I had asked students to find mistake in spelling: Shankarbhai Chaudhary

Gandhinagar:

Minister of State for Health Shri Shankarbhai Chaudhary today clarified that he had wrongly spelled elephant on school black board today and asked students to find out mistake in the spelling. He said he spelled it wrongly to create understanding among students that where they are most likely to place alphabet ‘e’ instead of ‘a’. Chaudhary said this was one of the examples through which he was making his point. He said he had wrongly spelled the name of north Gujarat town in Gujarati to making same point.

Shri Chaudhary had today during his visit to a school in north Gujarat town spelled ‘elephant’ as ‘elephent’. Section of media alleged that Shankarbhai committed mistake in spelling and posted news criticizing Chaudhary.

However Chaudhary when noticed this row, clarified in the evening that the details in media were incomplete. He said he had even showed example of his own town name Disa and spelled it wrongly in Gujarat, again to tell students that where exactly they were likely to do mistake in Gujarati ‘ee’ and ‘i’.

Chaudhary said he wrote ‘elephent’ on black board and later asked students to find spelling mistake.

It should be mentioned that along with the annual school enrollment drive, this year, the state government is also simultaneously holding ‘Gunotsav’ which is school inspection drive under which ministers, bureaucrats and other government staff during their visits to schools directly converse with students and assess their progress including the details pertaining to whether they can read, write and count correctly.

How section of media ran story without even asking Chaudhary to tell his side of story:
