Solanki raises issue of complete fencing of Pakistan-Gujarat border in Lok Sabha
July 29, 2016
Ahmedabad: Expressing concern over the long part of the non-fenced border adjoining Pakistan in Gujarat, Ahmedabad West BJP MP Kirit Solanki today requested the central government to allow complete fencing and accomplish the fencing of the remaining around 249 km of the borders at the earliest to check the sneaking-in by smugglers and anti national elements.
Raising the issue in Lok sabha during zero hour through call attention, Mr Solanki said that the total length of the border adjoining Pakistan in Gujarat was 512 km of which the government has given permission for fencing of only 340 km.
Of the 340 km only 262.70 km of fencing has been completed so far. ‘In many areas the fencing has fallen or its base has weakened and the anti national elements, smugglers, illegal weapon traders and terror elements take advantage of this to sneak in to the Indian territory. Though some of them are caught by the security personnel yet many get through. The state government has written to the union government time and again requesting for the complete fencing of the border,’ a statement of the MP issued here this evening said.
He said that for the safety of Gujarat and rest of the country from cross border terror elements the union government must do the complete fencing on the border.
