January 08, 2017
Gandhinagar: All roads leading to capital Gandhinagar bore an unusually busy look for a Sunday morning as thousands of people swarmed in to watch the final dress rehearsal of the Indian Air Force (IAF) flying display over Swarnim Park, Sector 11 and the IAF Air Warriors did just what they do best – stole the hearts of all present.
The rehearsal of the Air show, a precursor of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit and also to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow was originally planned for yesterday but postponed owing to very poor visibility
In spite of the morning haze limiting the visibility just a wee bit, today it was carried on and the thunderous roar of the Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet engines did manage to hold the breaths of those present while they performed much to the delight of the young crowd that gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of their Real Heroes perform in front of them.
Arriving over the venue with clockwork precision at 1103 hrs, the SU-30 MKI performed a range of awe inspiring manouvres including it’s unique ‘Tail Slide’ and ‘Vertical Charlie’ before handing over the skies to the Surya Kiran Formation Aerobatics team.
The 4 Aircraft Hawk formation painted like the Rays of the Sun then went about their task showcasing the extreme skills and precision they are known the world over for. After displaying various formations in the air, they signed off with an ‘India Formation’.
The Aakash Ganga team of the IAF came next, para dropped from a MI-17V5 helicopter dotting the sky with vibrant colours, predominantly saffron, white and green. The paratroopers landed barely a few metres in front of the expectators much to their delight and amazement.
Air Marshal R K Dhir Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief South Western Air Command along with J N Singh Chief Secretary Govt of Gujarat were present at the venue to oversee preparations including the flying display.
The show is scheduled to be repeated tomorrow setting the tone for a lively opening of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2017.
In addition to a repeat of today’s performance at 1100hrs tomorrow, the Aakash Ganga team performance and dropping of petals by a Chetak Helicopter at 1700hrs would add colour to the proceedings in the presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister as he inaugurates the Global Trade Show tomorrow, Defence spokesperson Wing Commander Abhishek Matiman today said.
