Junagadh: The experts of Archaeological Survey of India today started the study of three ancient statues found during leveling of an agricultural field of a remote village situated in the vicinity of Gir forests in Junagadh district of Gujarat.
The ancient statutes each weighing around 200 to 250 kgs and 3 to 4 ft in height were found from beneath the earth surface the field in Ambeya Gir village under Maliya Hatina Taluka, around 70 kms from here yesterday.
The statues, from which one seems to be of Lord Ganapati, were found in the field of one Galabhai Mulbhai where the leveling of work with the help of an earth excavating machine was being done.
As the site of finding of the statues was close to Prabhas Patan (modern days Gir Somnath) whose history dates back to over 3000 year, the statues have been handed over to the ASI experts for archaeological study.
