Ola launches Senior Citizen Mobility discount program in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Ola, the mobile app based cab/ other transportation service provider, today announced the expansion of its ‘Senior Citizen Mobility Program’ which offers discount for people aged 60 years and above, in Ahmedabad, and three other cities.

The initiative aims at making mobility more accessible and affordable for the elderly, just like Indian Railways and many public utility services. As part of this initiative, senior citizens (60 years and above) who register for this program will enjoy a discount of 20% on their first 10 Ola rides every month. Additionally, the first 10 Ola Auto rides can be availed at a discount of 15%.

Apart from Ahmedabad, it was also launched simultaneously in Nagpur, Indore and Bhopal today and would be rolled out in more cities in coming months, Kiran Brahma, Associate Director Operations, Ola said.

Launched in Pune and Mumbai a couple of months ago, the program witnessed immense traction amongst the senior citizens’ community, with various senior citizens’ groups coming forward to join hands with Ola and enable adoption in large number. These groups not only helped generate awareness, but, also educated the elderly in using Ola app and making on-demand bookings. The convenience and affordability, made these citizens avid Ola users; registration numbers run in tens of thousands, and the company is confident of doubling their enrollment number by end of this quarter. The program is currently available in 6 cities across the country viz, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Indore, Bhopal, Mumbai and Pune.

In Pune and Mumbai, where it was first introduced on experimental basis, Ola had tied up with an NGO wherein volunteers created awareness by going door-to-door, helping the registered consumers with the download and usage of the Ola app.

How can a senior citizen enjoy ‘Senior Citizen Mobility’ program’s benefits:

To avail discounts, individuals above 60 years of age, are required to register themselves online. They also need to submit their identity and age proof; once verified and confirmed (within 96 hours), senior citizens can start taking Ola rides at discounted price.
