Three trapped in flood water get food packet, mobile phone and other items through drone

Surendranagar: Three persons were trapped today morning at around 7.30 am in flooding water of river Bhogavo released from Dholidhaja dam in Wadhwan town of Surendranagar district.

Two attempts to rescue them and bring them to mainland remained unsuccessful. NDRF teams from Chotila were moved here to rescue these three persons. However the were soon rushed to another place where immediate rescue was needed. Initial attempts were made by local municipality to rescue them.

When NDRF team arrived again, two attempts were made to rescue the three person who were sitting safely on higher portion of land within the river bed. To reach them was not difficult for NDRF but bringing them back to the mainland was challenging. Therefore the operation was dropped.

In the evening all three youths were supplied food packets using drone.

Items such as food packets, drinking water, light blanket, raincoat and mobile phone were sent to them via drone. District Development Officer(DDO) spoke to them over mobile phone call.

Meanwhile the district administration of Surendranagar has closed the gates of the dam in order to lower down the level of river. NDRF teams are waiting to further lower level of water. Rescue operation is possible early in the morning. Some arrangement of lighting are also being made here. If water level in the downstream area of dam stays stable or go down, three youths trapped in higher area are safe, but if heavy rainfall is experienced again and more water need to be released from the dam, then the area where three are halting may also submerge. It is for this reason that lighting arrangement is being setup for eventual rescue operation in dark.
