SP of Chhota Udepur district in Gujarat resigns, likely to be BJP candidate on tribal Bhiloda seat

Gandhinagar/Chhota Udepur:

The home department of Gujarat government has accepted the resignation of the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chhota Udepur district, Poonamchand C Baranda who is likely to contest the upcoming assembly polls from Bhiloda seat in his home district of Aravalli as a BJP candidate.

A 1996 GPS official who was promoted to IPS cadre in 2007, Baranda (58) belongs to tribal community.

Baranda today said that he had resigned from his post for putting forth his candidature from ruling BJP from Bhiloda seat.

To a query regarding Bhiloda (ST) seat being a stronghold of Congress party, Baranda said that his native village of wankatimba was in the same constituency and he knew that it was deprived from the fruits of development mostly owing to the inactive attitude of the congress representatives.

Baranda was SP of Chhota Udepur for past around two years and he was also DCP in Ahmedabad earlier on.

Notably, Bhiloda will go to polls along with 92 other seats of central and North Gujarat on December 14 in the second phase. The first phase poll in 89 constituencies in Saurashtra-Kutch and South Gujarat will be held on December 9. BJP has not yet issued any list of candidates.
