Congress eying OBC votes but opposing constitutional status to OBC commission:Modi at Prachi
November 29, 2017
Prachi (Gujarat):
PM Narendra Modi today said that he would ensure the constitutional status to the OBC commission despite obstacles by Congress party.
Addressing a rally here Modi said Congress was eying OBC votes in Gujarat. It was also spreading the poison of caste politics but despite its long rule at center it never tried to give constitutional status to OBC commission on the lines of SC and ST commissions.
‘The demand for constitutional status to OBC commission was on for 25 years and Congress never paid heed to it during its rule and it was now eyeing the OBC votes,’ he said.
Modi, who himself comes from the OBC community, said, ‘When I tried to do so by bringing a bill for the same it was passed by the Loksabha but Congress created obstacles in Rajyasbha where it was in majority and the bill could not be passed. The Congress party was trying to create obstacles in the same way the Yagnas were disturbed by demons in the ancient times. But I want to assure that despite their obstacles we would get constitutional status for the OBC commission.’
‘We will bring the bill 50 times if they oppose it as many times,’ he said.
PM Modi also hit out at the Congress for its lax attitude about the One Rank One Pension scheme in the past.
