Floor test in Karnataka assembly at 4 pm on Saturday: Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today ordered that a floor test in Karnataka assembly will be conducted on Saturday, 4 pm to determine which side has the required numbers to form government. The Governor had earlier allowed Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa 15 days to prove his strength on the floor of the House. The Supreme Court said no full time speaker but protem speaker will conduct the floor test. The court in its directive said Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa can’t take major policy decisions till floor test. The court said no ango-Indian member should be nominated till floor test. Apex court said oaths of MLAs should be administered before floor test. MLAs will be provided security to join the floor test. The proceeding in assembly will be captured in video. The BJP emerged as the single largest party but fell short of a majority. Congress that had kept its MLAs earlier in Eagleton resort near Bengaluru has now shifted them to Hyderabad based hotel after overnight bus journey. Supreme Court will hear the case pertaining to Governor’s decision to call single largest party to form the government after ten weeks. Reacting to verdict, BJP said: Supreme Court’s judgement upholds Constitution, previous precedents and quashes Congress’s opportunistic politics. We are ready for the floor test tomorrow in line with SC’s orders. We have trounced Congress in elections, it won’t be any different on the floor of the House! Similar was the reaction by party leader Prakash Javdekar who is camping in Bengaluru and Chief Minister BS Yeddyuarappa.
