Industry Commissioner to hold meeting in Surat for proposed Pinjrat Mega Textile Park
June 24, 2018
Surat: Union finance ministry had handed over the task of setting up two mega textile parks in the country to union textile ministry. One of such parks was to come up near Surat as Pinjrat mega textile park for which a special purpose vehicle(SPV) was formed. The SPV had demanded 80 lakh square meter land beyond the Coastal Regulatory Zone(CRZ) limit at Pinjrat coast. During the procedure, Chennai based National Coastal Management for Sustainable Development Institute has handed over a CRZ map to SPV and given opinion that out of 80 lakh square meter land demanded, 32 lakh square meter land is available outside the CRZ.
On the other hand the union government has sought status report of mega textile park following which the state government’s industry commissioner Mamta Verma is going to visit Surat on July 6 in order to hold a meeting. Prior to this meeting, a review meeting was held by Chamber of Commerce in Surat.
The originally proposed 80 lakh square meter park was to have 225 dying, processing, weaving and spinning units. Now when the size of the land is going to reduce, the number of units to be set up will also be lower than planned.
Meanwhile, options are being explored for 60 lakh square meter land availability. If Surat Urban Development Authority(SUDA) is ready to construct a 15 ft high road connecting to water channel, the project can get 60 lakh square meter land. Local industrialists are going to make representation before the industry commissioner regarding this.
The project is important for Surat because dying and processing units located within the limit of Surat city are to be shifted to proposed textile mega park. In initial phase, factories in AK road, Vastadevdi road, Salabatpura, Khatodara will be shifted.
