Ahmedabad/Gandhingar:Brother of PM Narendra Modi, Prahald Modi today lashed out at Congress for the remarks made by its UP president and actor turned politician Raj Babbar about his mother during an election rally in Indore of Madhya Pradesh.
He termed it as frustration of the party which was seemingly annoyed at the fact that she had given birth to a man like PM Modi owing to whom the party is facing hard times.
Babbar had during the rally yesterday reportedly termed PM Modi as ‘manhoos'(ominous) over the rising fuel prices. He also had compared the devalued rate of the rupee to the PM’s nonagenarian mother Hiraba, who is around 97 years old.
“Modi used to say that the rupee has fallen so much against the dollar that it was nearing the age of the then prime minister (Manmohan Singh). Today, the rupee’s value has dropped so low, that it is inching closer to your (Modi’s) beloved mother’s age,” Babbar had reportedly said during the rally.
Prahlad Modi, third among the four brothers of Modi and younger to him who runs a public distribution shop and is also leader of the association of such shop owners, said that such family members of politicians should not be dragged in to such things who have nothing to do with politics. ‘My mother is living long life by god’s grace and is Congress jealous about it?,’ he questioned.
‘Congress in fact is facing hard-times due to PM Modi, who is son of my mother. It seems that the party leader has in frustration and in an attempt to abuse the PM given such a low statement. I pray to god to give the party good senses to fight the political battle without such a frustration,’ he said.
Earlier CM of Gujarat Vijay Rupani had also hit out at Babbar and his party terming his statement as ‘cheap and pathetic’. ‘There are certain norms in the democracy and such below the dignity things should be done. What is the point in comparing PM’s mother’s age with price of Dollar,’ he said.
Modi’s mother lives with his youngest brother Pankaj Modi, an officer in the Gujarat state Information department in Gandhinagar.
