Vadodara: Former Indian women team trainer Afzal Khan has been appointed as the Head Trainer of the Ranji team of Baroda while NCA qualified level 3 coach Sanat Kumar has been appointed the Head Coach of the team, Joint Secretary of the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) Snehal Parikh informed today.

He said that the decision was taken in the managing committee meeting of the BCA held here today.

Parikh said that the committee had telephonically reviewed and short listed 4 to 5 Coaches and finally considering few important parameters selected Sanat Kumar (56) from Bangalore, Karnataka as the Head Coach for BCA for two seasons 2019-20 & 2020-21. He will be joining his duty from July 15 and will be getting a fees of Rs 40 lakh in the first season and 45 lakh in the second. He was also the head coach of the team from 2011 to 2014.

Parikh said that Afzal Khan was appointed the head trainer of the team based on his past performance as well as his willingness to get associated with BCA for a long term.

Afzal has also offered to take an additional responsibility of taking the assignment – ‘ Train the Trainers’ – In which Afzal will create Programs and on a regular basis train the trainers of all age groups and upgrade them with the latest development of fitness and training including all the age group trainers and also train District and Women trainers of BCA. He has already joined and the Training Camp has already commenced, involving short listed Ranji cricketers as well as under 23 boys. In the first season ie 2019-20 he will get a remuneration of Rs 22 lakh and in the next year he would get a 10% increment.

Parikh said the BCA has also given approval of a throw down assistant for the Ranji team.

Approval of additional budget for development of Kotambi cricket ground –

He also said that the committee has also given approval of an additional budget of Rs. 1 Cr. for Kotambi Cricket Ground Development, which includes Storm Water Drain, Practice Pitches, Submersible Pump with Starter, Temporary Sanitation facilities, Providing various electrical Connections and Repairing of Wall of Existing Well with Cover Stairs etc.
