Supreme Court refuses to stay CAA implementation
December 18, 2019
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to grant stay on the recently enacted Citizenship Amendment Act but issued notices to all petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the act.
A three-judge bench comprising Chief Juctice of India S A Bobde asked the Centre to file its response by second week of January.
The petitioners in their plea had highlighted that CAA violates secularism, which is a basic structure of the Constitution and promotes religious based discrimination.
The bench fixed January 22 as next date of hearing in the case.
