New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that his government was mandated to bring about drastic changes in Indian governance and mindset and hence the NDA regime has worked with a new determination and sensitivity.
Modi also said had his government followed Congress’ track, many good things would not have been achieved and Article 370 and Triple Talaq would not have been abolished.
“The people of India have not only changed the Sarkar. They want the Sarokar (functional style and mindset) to be changed as well. Had we worked according to the old ways and thought processes, Article 370 would never have been history. Muslim women would have kept suffering due to Triple Talaq,” the Prime Minister said in Lok Sabha replying to the debate on Motion of Thanks to President’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament.
In this context, he listed out some of the achievements of his government and said one significant part of the latest Bodo agreement is that all militant groups from the region have come forward to participate at the peace process and join the mainstream.
“We have brought a new dawn for the people of north east. New morning has come and there is fresh light,” he said.
The Prime Minister said all the members of Parliament should dedicate themselves in the current session to work on economic issues.
He said the criticism of his government reflects that the opposition leaders also repose faith in his government.”You all know, if anyone can deliver, it is my government,” the Prime Minister said.
“Despite many efforts, the Bodo issue was unsolved for years. The Bodo Accord signed now is special because it has brought all stakeholders together and we are moving towards a more peaceful era,” he said.
He said it is due to the works of his government that the Northeast is becoming a growth engine.
“Great work has been done in so many sectors. Ministers and officials are regularly visiting the region,” he said.
The Prime Minister also said it is due to the speed of this government that in the last five years.
“Thirty seven crore people got bank accounts, 11 crore people got toilets in their homes, 13 crore people got gas connections and two crore people got their own homes,” he said.
“India can no longer wait for problems to remain unsolved. And, rightfully so. That is why, our aim is – Speed and scale and also determination and decisiveness,’ the Prime Minister asserted.
The BJP-led regime is working with sensitivity and trying to bring in solutions, he said.
Taking potshots at Opposition, he said, “….Gandhiji is Life for us”. He said the government will give focus on job creation; but “we will ensure that your joblessness (days out of power) does not end”.

In a sharp attack on the Opposition parties, including the Congress over its protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that Opposition is misleading and misinforming people over the Act and sponsoring anti-CAA protests across the country.
Replying to the debate in the Rajya Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament, the PM also rejected the Opposition criticism of the abrogation of the Article 370 and Article 35 A.
He also allayed any apprehensions over the state of the Indian economy and said the fundamentals of the Indian economy remain strong.
Expressing concern over the protests across the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act , the PM charged the Opposition, including the Congress, of misleading and misinforming people on the Act.
“A discussion has been held on the CAA in Parliament. It is the responsibility of all of us to give a correct information about the Citizenship Act to the people and not mislead them.
Those misinforming people about the CAA must introspect. Should they be supporting anti-CAA protesters. Instead of scaring people on CAA, correct information should be given,” the PM said.
He said no one can reap political benefits out of the anti-CAA protests.
“The path being taken on CAA by many Opposition parties is unfortunate. No one is going to reap political benefits out of protests against Citizenship Law,” the PM said.
Responding to the criticism by the Opposition on the revocation of Article 370 and article 35 A relating to Jammu and Kashmir, the PM said the members of Parliament had voted in favour of decisions on Jammu and Kashmir.
“All decisions related to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were taken after due discussion. It is the MPs who took decisions on Jammu and Kashmir,” the PM said.
On the allegations by some MPs that the decision to revoke Article 370 and article 35 A were taken undemocratically, the PM said, “the whole country saw debates in Parliament on Jammu and Kashmir and Article 370. The decision was taken after that.”
He said Jammu and Kashmir was getting the benefit of central schemes for the first time since 1947.
“Jammu and Kashmir is getting the benefits of Central government schemes for the first time after Independence,” the PM said.
On the Opposition MPs calling the abrogation of article 370 as a ‘Black Day’ for Indian democracy, he said, “August 5 is a Black day for those who support extremism.”
