Gujarat Congress chief claims, Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel airport has been renamed; fact-checkers find the claim fake

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Congress chief Amit Chavda today in a tweet claimed that Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel airport had been renamed as Adani airport. The claim was however found to be fake by factcheckers.

‘Corrupt BJP government in service to its industrialist friend disappeared the name of iron man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel from Ahmedabad airport and replaced it with Adani airport,’ Chavda tweeted and called BJP a shameless party. He also posted a photo of a hoarding on the road to Sardar Patel airport in Ahmedabad, in attempt to support his claim.

Soon there were media reports started flashing and flowing on social media platforms and local news channels, claiming that the title Sardar Patel had disappeared from Ahmdabad airport’s name. However when fact checked by twitter handle fakemfake, it was found that Amit Chavda’s claim was wrong. Sardar Patel’s name was not replaced at any place in the airport or outside. The name ‘Sardar Patel’ is very much present on the terminals, so as in all hoardings where it was present before. In fact Amit Chavda had in his tweet used the picture of just city side of hoarding on airport road that mentioned ‘Welcome to Ahmedabad’. As private company ‘Adani Airports’ operates and manages this airport, its name was also mentioned in the hoarding where earlier ‘Airport Authority of India’ would be mentioned.  On the other side of same hoardings (which is airport side), it is clearly mentioned that, ‘Welcome to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport’.

Later, the Government of India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) twitter handle also clarified the same.
