No lockdown, no day-time curfew, five-times beds to be available against cases: Rupani

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in reply to media queries here said he has ordered to make ready five-times bed compared to current number of Covid19 cases. He said the government accordingly reviews the situation every day. Rupani also refuted a propaganda that increase in number of cases is due to recently concluded local body elections. He said the states where there was no election have witnessed even higher number of cases compared to Gujarat. Rupani also rejected speculations on possibility of day-time curfew and lockdown in the State.

Rupani said, ‘Covid spread has increased across the country. Many states have even worse situation and more number of cases compared to Gujarat. We in Gujarat completed (local body) elections. In the months of January and February, the number of cases was law. But from March onward, pandemic has spread further across the country including worst in Maharashtra, Punjab etc places where there were no elections even. There are 25,000 daily cases in Maharashtra and over 2,500 in Punjab.’

He further said, ‘as cases are increasing in Gujarat, we have taken some strict, immediate and timely actions. But no lockdown is going to happen. There’s no day-time curfew. Malls and theaters such types of places of gathering are going to remain closed in weekends.’

Rupani said, ‘in the past also, peak was experienced on three occasions, but even then, we all with restraint and patience, crossed that phase. The govt has made all preparations, there’s no need to panic. However caution is required. All should wear mask, avoid crowding and maintain social distancing. We have only two ways out. One is mask and the other is vaccination.’

He said, ‘we will surely come out of this cycle. The government has made proper arrangement for treatment. Earlier we had made ready 60,000 beds. At present, I have ordered to make ready five-times bed compared to present number of cases. There’s no need to fear, but one should maintain caution.’
