Ahmedabad Airport runway re-carpeting work later this year may disrupt flights traffic

Ahmedabad: A runway of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport of Ahmedabad will remain closed in weekdays for six months starting from November this year during 9.30 am to 5.30 pm for re-carpeting work which may result into cancellation and changes in timing in case of several daily domestic flights in this period. Since 2016, re-carpeting works have been taken up on six different occasion.Runway repair work was recently undertaken from 20th-30th April without major flight disruptions.
Ahmedabad Airport had recently in a reply to tweet said: Runway maintenance is to ensure aircraft safety and increase runway life. Runway maintenance closures are mandatory procedures in line with international safety standards. Hence, all the relevant stakeholders under the guidance of the safety regulator are consulted and given abundant notice to revise schedules in order to ensure minimal passengers’ inconvenience.
