We are working on introducing an online complaint filing facility: MoS Home Harsh Sanghavi

Sabarmati: Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi while addressing a function here today said the State Police is in process to develop the system under which complaint for mobile phone theft or car theft can be filed online.

‘If a persons requires to visit the police station for filing complaint regarding theft of a mobile phone or a car, then that’s not the new age policing. One should be able to do that using the online mode. We are working on doing that,’ Sanghavi said.

The minister was speaking in a function ‘building bridges’ organized by the city police of Ahmedabad and the Gujarat Media Club jointly. The function was attended by city police officials and editors/bureau chiefs of leading media organizations of Gujarat.

He said, upcoming challenge for police shall be on the fronts of economic offences and cyber crimes. He the department is working on number of initiatives for new-age policing.

‘One thing is recruitment of cyber crime experts. As per the present provisions, such expert can be paid upto Rs. 40,000 salary. Now which expert will be available for this sum to work as cyber expert? We are trying to change the policy,’ he said.

Sanghavi said, just dedicated buildings would not be enough to fight the economic offences and cyber crimes. Suppose there’s a dedicated economic offence police station, then it will need permanent lawyer, CS and other staff to make chargesheet technically so perfect that an accused would not be able to get free.

Sanghavi said the State home department and police team sat for seven hours in the state secretariat and the meeting was on even at 2.00 am. The meeting chalked out the policy for reward to informers in drugs cases. This policy is extremely important as the informer network is absolutely required to bust the drug networks. Thanks to the new drug reward policy which was introduced on trial base, 225 drug peddler are caught. And not a single drug consumer, but all drug peddlers were caught.

Sanghavi further said, chargesheets were filed in shortest possible time in more than 9 cases of POCSO (child rape). In 30 days, the court gave verdict thanks to the hard work by police. And not an ordinary penalty, but death penalty and life-term was awarded.

Sanghavi gave an example of Bhavnagar rape case in which the police filed chargesheet within 24 hours. DeshGujarat
