March 04, 2022
Anand: The supreme court has ordered the state government to cancel the appointment of the vice-chancellor of Sardar Patel University (SPU) in Anand.
A petition was filed in the supreme court alleging the breach of rules in the appointment of SPU VC Dr Shirish Kulkarni as Vice-Chancellor of the university. The appointment was made in a notification of 29th August 2019. The petitioner Gambhirdan K. Gadhvi has earlier challenged the notification in the high court. However, the high court had dismissed the petition by stating that the state government had not adopted the UGC guidelines.
The petition was then moved to the supreme court. The petition stated that the experience of minimum 10 years as a professor is required for the post of Vice Chancellor as per UGC norms. The supreme court has issued a 58-page verdict.
