Gujarat Congress’s Saturday morning bandh call fails to evoke response

Gandhinagar: Main opposition Congress party’s four-hour ‘symbolic’ bandh call on Saturday, 10th September morning largely failed to evoke response. Congress workers could be seen at some locations forcing closer and arguing with shop keepers. At some other locations they could be seen appealing shop keepers to shut the shops and support the bandh protest against inflation. In some staunch supporting areas of Congress (like Anklaw market, market of Sanand, Halvad, Jamjodhpur and some Muslims populated areas), the impact of bandh could be seen, but such locations are negligible in number. More so it was difficult to ascertain whether it was the response to a bandh call or such shops/markets anyway open late. Some Congress cadres were detained by Police when they were forcing closure in colleges of Rajkot. Meanwhile, Congress leader Bharatsinh Solanki today afternoon in a press conference stated that Congress workers were welcomed by shopkeepers wherever they went. Congress leaders claimed success of bandh call.

The Minister of Education of Gujarat and State government Spokesperson Jitu Vaghani, said, “The Congress party can not see and stand the fact that Gujarat is the best destination for business. Congress has a stomach ache seeing the economic success of Gujarat. So I want to thank the people of Gujarat who made the Bandh unsuccessful.”

The Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghvi, said, “My only request is that the Congress party should first open the gates of their closed party offices.”
