Additional Commissioner of Income Tax on run after trapped in bribe case by ACB Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has booked additional income-tax commissioner of the central circle range 1 of Income-tax department in Ahmedabad in a bribe case of Rs 30 lakh. He is a class one officer and now on run.

The income-tax department’s Ahmedabad wing had made an appraisal report of the papers seized during search at the complainant’s home and workplace and at the premises of the employees of his company. The papers were seized through this search and appraisal report was made based on that. The case was put under Income-tax department Ahmedabad central circle range-1’s additional income tax commissioner Santosh Karnani. He often called the complainant at his office and gave threats of huge financial damage. He illegally demanded money from the complainant to prevent financial damage.

The complainant went to his office on 3rd October 2022 Monday after the accused called him to meet. The accused demanded Rs 30 lakh bribe to help the complainant. The accused asked the complainant to deposit the money in the symbolic account at Dhara currier office on Sindhubhawan road in Ahmedabad.

The complainant contacted ACB as he was not willing to pay the bribe. During a trap, the ACB recovered the bribe amount to be given to the accused from the currier company. The accused escaped from his office when another team of ACB reached there. DeshGujarat
