One more move by Vaghela in attempt to join Congress party

Gandhinagar: 82-year old former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela’s camp today conveyed the media persons that he met with Gujarat Congress incharge Raghu Sharma. The meeting took place at Vaghela’s Gandhinagar based residence ‘Vasant Vihar’.

The media persons soon asked Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia regarding this move on the sidelines of a press conference. Modhwadia replied that all who want to defeat BJP are welcome to join Congress. Modhwadia also said that men make mistakes but then they realize and they can always return to a good path.

However when it comes to this topic, it is not important what Modhwadia or Raghu Sharma do or believe. Vaghela has been proposing to return to the Congress party for a long time. However the Congress leadership in the Centre has not met him and denied appointments. Vaghela was denied meeting by even Gujarat Congress senior incharge and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. All indications so far are that, the central leadership has trust issues with Vaghela who ditched the party in 2017 and voted against the party candidate Ahmed Patel in Rajya Sabha elections. Vaghela supporting MLAs had also left the Congress party in 2017 just ahead of the State assembly elections.

Vaghela had ditched BJP and rebelled against then Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel in late 1990s. He had formed his own party which didn’t earn success in subsequent elections. Vaghela later joined the Congress party and also became State party chief, leader of opposition and union textile minister. He left Congress in 2017 and came up with Jan Vikalp Morcha which remained a non-starter. Recently Vaghela has also formed Praja Shakti Democracit Party which also has been a non-starter. Vaghela was also in the news for attending a meeting of G-23 group of Congress which was challenging the style of functioning of the party’s central leadership. The other issue regarding Vaghela is doubts over his usefulness. In the last two decades there’s hardily any evidence of Vaghela’s electoral usefulness. DeshGujarat
