Rajendra Khimani resigns as VC of Gujarat Vidyapeeth
January 16, 2023
Amdavad: Rajendra Khimani, vice-chancellor (VC) of Gujarat Vidyapeeth, resigned from his post yesterday. Governor Acharya Devvrat, who is also the Chancellor of Vidyapeeth, accepted the resignation.
Professor, Bharat Joshi is appointed as the in-charge VC until a replacement for Khimani is appointed.
The resignation comes after the legal tussle between Khimani and University Grants Commission (UGC). UGC had disputed Khimani’s appointment as the VC but Khimani challenged the UGC’s direction in the High court of Gujarat.
Gujarat High Court held that UGC’s direction should be abided in the matter.
Khimani, who assumed the office as VC of Gujarat Vidyapeeth on June 29, 2021, resigned as he was about to be removed from the post on the UGC’s directions, the source claimed. DeshGujarat
